INSPIRATIONAL WOMEN SOLO EXHIBITION AND COVID-19

Update: New dates for my solo exhibition are November 11 - 30, 2021.

This week, you should have been able to stroll through the Hutson Gallery at the Chester County Art Association in West Chester, PA, taking in the sight of over 50 oil paintings of fantastic women. My Inspirational Solo exhibition was scheduled three years ago. I knew then that I wanted to produce a collection that would make a difference. Instead, our planet is fighting a deadly virus.

For my solo, I chose to paint incredible, strong women. These are women who overcame hardships, broke records and blazed trails, shattering glass ceilings along the way.

As you may remember, this is the gallery where last year I showed the massive portrait of my son, “Polypharmacized: The Face of Autism,” created from over 1,200 prescription pill bottles --- and, "Pretty Boy," a male peacock cardboard dress modeled at the show's opening by the lovely drag queen, Amie Vanite. Both pieces, sending strong messages.

With the number of U.S. COVID-19 deaths exceeding 80,000, it is imperative that we protect one another by continuing to social distance. I will see your smiling faces when the skies clear. Sign up for my monthly newsletter to learn about new show dates. Be safe. xo

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MALALA YOUSAFZAI

http://www.thegoodlifeofanartist.com/2019/07/inspirational-women-solo-exhibition.html
Happy 22nd Birthday to the fearless change maker, Malala Yousafzai!

Malala Yousafzai is a Pakistani activist for female education and the youngest Nobel Prize laureate. In 2008, the Taliban took control of her town in Swat Valley and banned girls from attending school. Malala was 11 years old. The following year, she wrote a secret blog for the BBC under a pseudonym, detailing her life under Taliban control. In 2012, while on a bus, Malala was shot in the head by a member of the Taliban in retaliation for her activism. Following her recovery, Malala became an activist for the right to education, establishing the Malala Fund, a nonprofit organization that fights for the right for girls’ education. The goal of the organization is to ensure 12 years of free, safe and quality education for every girl. She is the recipient of many awards, including the Nobel Peace Prize.

“We realize the importance of our voices only when we are silenced.”
~Malala Yousafzai

Malala Yousafzai’s oil painting portrait will be on display during my Inspirational Women solo exhibition at the Hutson Gallery at the Chester County Art Association in West Chester, PA, May 7 - June 4, 2020. Opening reception: May 7, 2020. Artist talk: May 14, 2020.

PAINTING A SERIES, RED NOOK IN PARIS ROOM INTERIOR OIL PAINTING

Eighteenth-century English painter, Joshua Reynolds, said, “A room hung with pictures is a room hung with thoughts.”

Instantly, you know this room in the Paris home of James Cook is hung with thoughts, and beautiful pictures. The boldly executed red nook is full of warmth and character. 📷 credit: @paris_chic_home

I enjoy painting a series or collection, which might be inspirational women, flowers, animals and anything or one that/who piques my interest. Red Nook is one of a Paris-inspired series that was the impetus for my now series of room interiors.

Red Nook in Paris is one in a series of room interior oil paintings. 6x6-inches, oil on museum gessobord.
